The recommended system configuration to use Internet Explorer
6 Service Pack 1 is Microsoft Windows® 2000, Microsoft Windows
Millennium Edition (Windows Me), or Microsoft Windows NT® on
a computer running with a Pentium III processor and 128 megabytes
(MB) of RAM. Below are the minimum requirements your computer
needs to run Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1.
Additional system requirements are not required when running
Windows XP. Some components may require additional system resources
not outlined below.
Minimum System Requirements
- Computer/Processor Computer with a 486/66-MHz processor or
higher (Pentium processor recommended)
- Operating System Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows
Millennium Edition (Windows Me), Windows NT® 4.0 with the
high encryption version of Service Pack 6a (SP 6a) and higher,
Windows 2000, or Windows XP
- Memory For Internet Explorer 6 SP 1
- RAM requirements depend on the operating system used:
Select your language from the drop-down list on the top right
of the screen & click "Go"
English: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/download.asp
Click the Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 link to download
(top, right of the screen)
When you click Download, you will be prompted to download a
479 KB setup file called ie6setup.exe. During the setup, you
can choose the type of installation you prefer, and Internet
Explorer downloads only the files you need to complete the installation.
Total download size for a typical installation is approximately
25 megabytes (MB). However, because setup downloads only those
files that are necessary for your computer, this size can vary
between 11 and 75 MB.
Note: Third-party download managers (for example, Netzip,
GetRight, etc.) intercept the download, and cause the installation
to stop. To prevent this, disable third-party download managers
before running the setup file.
Completing the Installation:
Restart your computer to complete the installation.
Windows 2000 and Windows XP users: Custom installation is not
available for Internet Explorer 6 SP1 on Windows 2000 or Windows
XP operating systems.
