Web-Based Platforms for Information Gathering and Transfer Tools
June 20 – 22, 2006
MARK
ADLER: Fire station in order to log in and even then, itÕs dial-up. So all of
those were things weÕve considered. Yes?
UNKNOWN
SPEAKER: It seems to me that technology barrier will fall in terms of not even
just about with technology but also being able to get an input of new
technology (inaudible) I think itÕs more -- itÕs the idea of building contents
that is captivating and interesting and you can be used in this environment
what ever that this environment is, is this platform free aspect to it that I
think where we should be putting our most energy in terms of this kind of
relationship.
MARK
ADLER: Right. And things are moving fast. Like Mike was talking about, there
are actually products here that will do this for you. Three years ago, we
actually started four years ago, those products werenÕt there, we were
developing them. We would see articles come out in PC Magazine talking about
things that people are doing and weÕre like, well we did that six months ago.
UKNOWN
SPEAKER: WeÕre in the wrong business.
MARK
ADLER: We did that six months ago. So, it wasnÕt out there but now it is so,
yes, go for it.
ROBERT
SAPIEN: ThereÕs one other (inaudible). Aiming for high technology means letÕs
say, we use videos and we also use Windows and Windows Media Player comes in
various flavors up through now a lot of them I think. It possible to say that,
ÒI like Windows Media 9 and I want to write in Windows Media 9 but guess what? My
institution wonÕt install Windows Media 9 and they put it behind the firewall
and you have to have user access to get on it.Ó If youÕre looking at
institutional audience, be very careful, I mean home-users can upgrade their
computers but I canÕt. But if I had one target audience, which is all the
nurses in the hospital and all their workstations are locked. And theyÕre not
around, the Flash havenÕt been upgraded for a year and theyÕre not upgrading
Windows Media. So that would be a real waste if I were doing that. So, you
really have to be careful about looking at your end-user for technology.
MARK
ADLER: We canÕt access this site with the Flash or the video in our own
hospital. We can do it in on the university computers but not in our own
hospital because of all of that.
UNKNOWN
SPEAKER: You had mentioned a couple of times about not being interactive. You
wanted more interactivity with the sites and for the educational experience. I
was curious, should you come up with some creative ways to increase the
interactivity or see where itÕs headed there.
MARK
ADLER: If you have that extra step of programming then indeed, itÕll talk back
to you so you pick an answer and it says, ÒTheyÕre not right for these reasons,
you know, this isnÕt the actually correct.Ó We just made it so that it always
gives you the correct answer.
ROBERT
SAPIEN: The newest version of Flash the one we release before, came out with
more educational concept, structures built into it that does that for you now. WeÕll
look at database and correct it. But IÕm sure--
MARK
ADLER: When we were starting, so now, we could just turn around and buy the
product or we should have been marketed the product that probably what we
should have done.
UNKNOWN
SPEAKER: One of the things that I think was brought up I think in the beginning
of the session was the number of ENTs in every state. Five, ten thousand, fifty
thousand depends on the state and the number of people who have access the
material. So, I was wondering if you have some thoughts as to what you have and
your getting to the point of getting the complete set of modules up. How do you
plan to advertise what you got and other than the CE, if, could you comment on
the cost per person. You said you have to buy a license. So I think that you
know if you build a really nice box, and no one wants to play with it because
they donÕt know about it, thatÕs the problem. Or they donÕt want to play with
it because someone else has the boxes and get to the middle of it. But how much
is that going to cost?
MARK
ADLER: Well, there are, thereÕs dissemination every time we give a talk and we
talk a fair amount about the curriculum. WeÕve hand out; you have it in your
pocket the web page. So thatÕs a start. So pretty much all 300 nurses, school
nurses in New Mexico know that its online, soon and coming. We also, I use that
same triage video and I give talks at school nurse conferences. And so I plug
it then. This is what, this is truly only word-mouth at that point. And then, I
donÕt know as far as the C.E. is, Robert, do you want to talk about a little
bit more about the what weÕve had to do to try to get those?
ROBERT
SAPIEN: ThatÕs just really annoying bureaucracy (inaudible) CD.
MARK
ADLER: But we had to reach, our choice was to get a license, which is used
every, some like 35 hundred dollars.
ROBERT
SAPIEN: Thirty five hundred dollars for the CE. So you know, thereÕs NIA and
MIF layers in the last instead of choosing which one to go, with how much it
costs, and then approval procedure, and I donÕt know how else, what else to
say. ItÕs a long story.
MARK
ADLER: And then for the EMTC is in New Mexico if you are a Medical Director of
an EMS service you can grant CEs to the EMTs. So that was easy. I just did that
myself. But these oneÕs are little bit more onerous and I donÕt know about the
cost so.
UNKNOWN
SPEAKER: Do you buy a license or your responsible for accreditation keeping up
with certain accreditation. Things are really confusing.
MARK
ADLER: YouÕre always, even if you donÕt buy a license, youÕre always up for
audits. So they can always come and audit you, which is why we have to know
whoÕs taking it.
UNKNOWN
SPEAKER: Thank you. (Inaudible)? I wish youÕd come into that (inaudible).
UNKNOWN
SPEAKER: Yes. So please give it to me on your way out. Thank you.
