Jumpstarting Your Performance Measure Activities

June 20 – 22, 2006

DIANE FENDI: YouÕre supposed to be jumpstarting youÕre performance measures and we know that everyone of you are very much concerned that youÕre doing this right. And that youÕre able to move your programs forward. My name is Diane Fendi; IÕm the Trauma Acute Care Specialist with EMSC National Resource Center and obviously IÕm not having as much fun those people out in the hall. At the table--

SCOTT: TheyÕre faking it.

DIANE FENDI: TheyÕre faking it? IÕm not going there with you, Scott. Okay. Can we get the door shut so that where in not fighting them? And if they want to come in, fine in the ending. At the table, are our other two speakers today. WeÕve got Jennifer next to the wall whoÕs with the Lewin group and actually has been working very hard with the EMSC program on this evaluation measures and helping us get them straight so that we can--as grantees demonstrate to the federal programs that we actually are doing a very good job and commented to Jennifer earlier, sheÕs on one side, IÕm on the other side: itÕs a torn in between roses. The rest of you know Mike Lee. MikeÕs come with some very nice data collection tools and he will be helping with this session as well.

The other speakers for this session are you all and we would like to take five minutes just, stand up, introduce yourself, and where youÕre from and the reason weÕre doing this is we have so many new grantees and new coordinators we thought it would be nice if folks just could recognize a name and focus in on a face because IÕve had some folks come up to me and say, ÒDo you know who so and so is?Ó And some of us do know who so and so is and some of us donÕt. So, if we could start right here with this very handsome gentleman if you just stand up and introduce yourself and your state, and then will keep going but letÕs go real quick.

WeÕve got some chairs up here on the front and I promise if you will be sitting on the front, we will not call on you. So, I mean that should be enough to get you up here to the front if at all possible.

UNKNOWN SPEAKER: (Inaudible)

DIANA FENDI: Okay, obviously with so many of you all here itÕs become very apparent that, you all are looking for all of the magic answers, how to jump start your performance measures, so IÕm not going to tell you that we have all of the magic answers. Actually, most of us who work with the grantees would tell you that over the years weÕve learned that, you end up having many of the answers yourselves and our jobs are to help share those answers with everyone else.

So, with that said, weÕre going to open up with Jennifer. SheÕs going to give us an overview of the measures, do some answering of specific questions that we have had amongst ourselves and that you all have pointed out to us. Mike is going to interject some of the data collection tools that NEDARC has been working on. And then weÕre going to come back to discussion amongst you. Many of you submitted some very specific questions related to the performance measures and weÕre going to start off with those and then as other questions come up hopefully, weÕll have some time to address those. So, with that being said, Jennifer would you like to get started?
