2005 EMSC Annual Grantee Meeting
April 12-13, 2005

General Session

JANET HOUSTON: Can you hear me? First of all, I'd like to remind you to take a very deep breath and tell yourself it's going to be okay. And remember what Sharrie said you don't have to have it all in place in the first year. There's a progression. You can show that you're working on it. And you get points for that, that you're working on it. So it's going to be all right.

The other day I was listening to NPR, and the new Secretary of Education, Margaret Spellings was being interviewed about No Child Left Behind. And she said something that I thought summed up performance measures and the administration's goal perfectly. And that was the things that get measured get done. And that's really what this is all about. And it's going to sort of refocus the EMSC and it's going to refocus your activities. And we're all going to be working towards the same goals. And I generally thought that was a pretty good thing.

I'm going to let Evelyn speak now, and we'll get into specifics as we go along.
