Dante Cicchetti is Professor of Clinical and Social Sciences in Psychology, and Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the University of Rochester. Professor Cicchetti received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and Child Development from the University of Minnesota. Subsequently, he was an Assistant Professor and the Norman Tishman Associate Professor of Psychology and Social Relations at Harvard University. Since 1985, Professor Cicchetti has served as the Director of Mount Hope Family Center. Included among Professor Cicchetti’s awards and honors are the 1983 Boyd McCandless Award (for early career contributions to developmental psychology) from the American Psychological Association, the 1997 Research Career Achievement Award from the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children, the 1999 Distinguished Scientific Contribution to Clinical Child Psychology Award, and the 1999 Nicholas Hobbs Award for contributions to social policy and child development (both from the American Psychological Association). Professor Cicchetti’s research interests lie in the formulation of an integrative developmental theory that can account for both normal and abnormal forms of ontogenesis. His work has several foci: 1) developmental psychopathology; 2) the developmental consequences of child maltreatment; 3) neural plasticity and sensitive periods; 4) the impact of traumatic experiences upon brain development; 5) the biology and psychology of unipolar and bipolar depressive diseases; 6) the interrelationship among neurobiological, socio-emotional, cognitive, linguistic and representational development in normal and pathological populations; and 7) the study of attachment relations and representational models of the self and its disorders across the life span. Professor Cicchetti is also interested in the application of developmental principles to the assessment intervention and treatment of "high risk" children and their families. Professor Cicchetti is the Founding Editor of Development and Psychopathology as well as on the editorial board of the Psychological Bulletin. Dr. Cicchetti has over 250 publications, including papers, chapters, and books.
