Dr. Alpert is the Immediate past President of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is a Professor of Pediatrics and Public Health (Law) at Boston University School of Medicine and former Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Boston University and Boston Medical Center (1972-1993). Dr. Alpert is a member of the Institute of Medicine, and served on its Governing Council and Board on Children and Families. Prior to coming to Boston University, Dr. Alpert was on the faculty of Harvard Medical School (1961-1972).

A graduate of Yale University and Harvard Medical School, Dr. Alpert completed his Pediatric training at Boston Children’s Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School in London

During his just completed Presidency of the AAP, Dr. Alpert’s focus was on achieving universal health insurance coverage for children
