MCHB Conference Webcasts
The Future of Maternal and Child Health Leadership Training Conference - Seattle WA April 19-20, 2004

DR. ANN DRUM: Good morning. It's so nice to see so many of our training grantees here. I think Wendy was telling me we represent over 30 states and 125 individuals. I really would like to thank Wendy and Colleen, in particular. I think they've done an outstanding job of putting this meeting together and I think the collaborative spirits of all of MCH investments here at the University of Washington really shows. And I think they serve as a really sterling example for many of our investments that we co-locate, and we do brag about that quite a bit, about the University of Washington and their close collaborations. But I know there are many other people on the planning committee that were also very much responsible for this meeting on leadership and it's been a number of decades since we've gotten together to talk about this very, very important issue to our training programs, and I would sort of also like to recognize some of my staff that are here. Laura Kavanagh, who has really been such a leader in training, and with her strategic planning, and I know this leadership issue is just really close to her heart, and Nanette Pepper, who is here, who has been with the training branch for a number of years and has played a number of leadership roles with a number of the different categories here.

It's also been a pleasure to walk down memory lane for me because I think the next step is going to be the Dean here of this school of Dentistry, who I haven't seen in 20 years. And I had a chance to get together with last night. It was an old colleague of me, we both post-doctored in NIH many, many years ago, and it's so nice. I knew her back when, she was just a little whippersnapper, and-

UNIDENTIFIED SPEAKER: She still is.

DR. ANN DRUM: She's still is a little whippersnapper. But tremendous leadership, and that's what it's all about, so I really look forward to a great meeting. And thank you Wendy and Colleen for your leadership.
